This is what the future of Lake Scheibe could look like

As part of the structural change, the Hoyerswerda side of the Scheibe lake will undergo a comprehensive redesign, which should inspire both recreation seekers and adventure-seekers. The new visualisations by the Bauhoys planning office give an exciting impression of what is to be created over the next three years.

One of the most striking changes will be the extension of the beach, which will be three times as long. The now very steep slope will be modelled into inviting terraced sunbathing areas of different heights. With the new width of the beach, a wide variety of users will find pleasure and relaxation. Unique attractions are also planned. For example, a 50 metre long and 20 metre wide pier will be created, which will not only serve as an idyllic anchorage for boats, but can also be used as an event venue. There will also be an impressive 30 metre high landmark, which will also be accessible for people with limited mobility thanks to a lift. A highlight, not just for younger visitors, will be the opportunity to playfully hurtle down a slide from the landmark.

The development also includes practical aspects such as the construction of an additional car park and the creation of access roads that will provide access to both a planned holiday complex and a possible hotel. A barrier-free inclined plane will be created to the beach. This will also make it possible to go up and down with a pushchair. The area will then be fully developed in terms of media technology, so that the best conditions will be in place for further tourist revitalisation. There are also plans for public transport stops, which will further raise the profile of Hoyerswerda’s Haussee.

Although trees will first have to be removed – comprehensive compensation is already planned – the area will then be redesigned in a more sustainable and attractive way using native deciduous trees, among other things.

The overall project “Recreation and sustainable tourism at Lake Scheibe” is being financed with structural funding totalling 26 million euros.

In a further step, the extended shell of two new functional buildings is planned, including a two-storey beach café and a multi-purpose building with a restaurant as well as event and storage rooms. Applications for funding from the structural funds have been submitted.

The traffic and media technology development can thus become the spark for the entire area to the east of the new city bypass.

Unfortunately, where there is construction, there will also be familiar restrictions. Completion is planned for 2026.
