Kick-off for two further structural change projects

Translated with deepl-com

On Wednesday the symbolic starting signal was given for the implementation of two further structural change projects in Hoyerswerda, the future “Neustadtforum” and the “Municipal Energy Centres Lusatia – Datahub”. Saxony’s Minister of State for Regional Development Thomas Schmidt handed over the two funding notices to the city from funds of the Coal Regions Investment Act (InvKG) at the OSSI youth clubhouse. Together with Mayor Torsten Ruban-Zeh and Thomas Bleier, Managing Director of Städtische Wirtschaftsbetriebe Hoyerswerda GmbH, they accepted the notifications as project promoters.

The location was not chosen by chance, of course, as the conversion and renovation of the “Nikolai Ostrowski” youth club house (OSSI) into a modern children’s, youth, family, meeting and education centre for the city is the content of the “Neustadtforum” project. The OSSI is newly establishing itself as an educational and meeting place in the city of Hoyerswerda. Whether young or old – here everyone finds a contact point for a variety of information and counselling services.

The new planetarium will be a beacon that will shine far beyond Hoyerswerda, inviting people to marvel and participate. In cooperation with numerous actors, the Neustadtforum will become the central point of our urban life together. Here we are developing and testing new forms and solutions for shaping our future. The entire urban society and region is invited to participate. The federal government and the Free State are providing around 8.2 million euros, which corresponds to a funding rate of 92.5 percent.

What is currently going on in the OSSI, for example, was demonstrated by the young people of the “zerotwonine” formation in impressive dance performances, whose choreographies they develop and train together under the direction of Franziska “Franzi” Grabowski, head of the youth club house. The event guests from the citizenry, the city council and the city administration as well as from municipal enterprises thanked the performance with great applause.

The coal phase-out is forcing the restructuring of the energy supply along the entire value chain and across all sectors. The “Municipal Energy Centres Lusatia – Datahub” project in the Hoyerswerda area offers the opportunity to combine technically necessary changes in the supply with future-proof possibilities of digitalisation. Suitable sensor technology in the grids and systems, combined with powerful transmission technology, will increase transparency and controllability in the overall system, which in turn will lead to significantly more climate-efficient and affordable supply solutions for residents, commerce and industry.

The energy control centre not only serves as an intelligent information centre for the energy supply itself, but also acts as a “municipal data hub” and a nucleus for the further development of the city of Hoyerswerda into a “smart city”. This offers numerous opportunities for further and newly emerging “data-driven services” for the city society itself, but also via possible cooperation and service approaches for Lusatia as a whole. Funding from the federal government and the Free State amounting to more than 5.7 million euros can be used for this project (funding rate 92.5 percent).
