Last Friday, on June 16, 2023, the time had come: The official launch of the exciting research project “Safety in Automated and Connected Road Traffic (SivaS)” took place in the civic center of Hoyerswerda. In addition to the project partners TU Dresden, FSD Fahrzeugsystemdaten and the city of Hoyerswerda, representatives from business, politics and society were also invited. During the welcome at the entrance, a beautiful Sorbian tradition was celebrated, where the guests were welcomed with bread and salt. Mayor Torsten Ruban-Zeh opened the event with a warm greeting and emphasized the important role of science and research in structural change.
The technical presentation was moderated by Dr.-Ing. Günther Prokop, Professor of Automotive Engineering at TU Dresden. All project participants presented their respective subprojects and gave fascinating insights into the future of automated and connected driving. The outlook on the Smart Mobility Lab in Schwarzkollm, the future research campus of the TU Dresden, was particularly interesting. Following the lecture, the guests were able to marvel at a prototype of an automated minibus in the foyer of the Civic Center and be inspired by its innovative functions.
Even before the kick-off event, the project participants, including Dr.-Ing. Regine Gerike, Professor of Integrated Traffic Planning and Road Traffic Engineering at the TU Dresden, and Dr. E. h. Jürgen Bönninger, founder of FSD Fahrzeugsystemdaten GmbH, explored the planned routes of the reallaboratory in Hoyerswerda by bicycle. On site, they exchanged their expertise with representatives of the construction and real estate management, the road traffic authority and the economic development department of the city of Hoyerswerda.
The SivaS project has a total budget of 1.8 million euros, 80 percent of which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport as part of the mFUND innovation initiative. As part of the project, the city of Hoyerswerda is setting up a MITMACHLabor in Neustadt, which is a great opportunity for anyone interested to learn more about the various topics.
