The legend of the Black Miller made it into the cinemas with the film "Krabat" in 2008. His black mill stands in Schwarzkollm. All year round, you can follow in the footsteps of the "Harry Potter of Lusatia" and experience highlights such as the Krabat Festival or the summer open-air cinema.
The former Knappenrode briquette factory was shut down in 1993 and is now an interactive exhibition site where lignite processing can be experienced with all senses. Little miners get their money's worth with hands-on activities, a labyrinth and a tunnel slide.
Konrad Zuse (1910-1995) was the inventor of the first functioning computer and spent his youth in Hoyerswerda. Today, the Zuse Computer Museum (ZCOM) is dedicated to him. It presents the success story of information technology from the first PC to artificial intelligence.
"LehrReich" or "ErlebnisReich": the exhibition sections of the city museum are a true educational experience. Located in the castle, these sections are filled with exciting insights into the history of the city. Authentic objects from various time periods, dioramas, listening stations and informative texts bring the past to life.
At the Hoyerswerda Zoo, you can relax and hang out with the sloths Carla and Carlo, romp around the huge playground and, of course, take an "animal trip around the world" with animals from Europe, Africa, South America, Asia and Australia.
